Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Lesson aims

To describe and explain PCOS to a level needed by coaches and personal trainers

To explain the impacts which PCOS have on weight management, and explain how this will increase likelihood of encountering PCOS in practice

To describe and explain common medications which clients will be taking and explain the contraindications which they may present

To give examples of psychological and physiological issues which a coach may need to consider

To give recommendation for exercise and lifestyle based support which is safe for use


Perinatal Nutrition Recommendations

Lesson aims

To give an overview of a typical pregnancy and the different stages

To describe and explain the nutritional requirements of a female client during pregnancy

To describe and explain the nutritional requirements of a female client during breastfeeding and weaning

To explain what a coach can safely and responsibly encourage a female client to do, regarding training during pregnancy - emphasizing the important beneficial role which exercise can have

To explain post-natal rehab and the different stages which should occur when this is done responsibly

This workshop is a 4 part series delving into the following subjects.

Chapter 1: The Menstrual Cycle

Lecture 1 will cover how to discuss the menstrual cycles with your client, understand the physiology of the menstrual cycle, how hormone fluctuations affect her, the basics of birth control, a look into female phase training and finish with practical strategies for working with her cycle.

Chapter 2: Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Understand PCOS and it's causes, the impacts which PCOS has on weight management, become familiar with common medication, understand the psychological impacts of PCOS and finish this section being able to make safer exercise and lifestyle recommendations.

Chapter 3: Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome: Case Study

In this lecture delve into a PCOS case study to demonstrate the importance of coaching your client not the diagnosis and emphasising the role of stress in PCOS/hormone health.
