Module 2 - Movement Quality Training                                             

Describe what Movement Quality Training (MQT) is and the benefits for athletic development.

Describe the MQT framework           

Describe the MQT four-step Performance Pathway and how each step relates to the MQT framework.

Describe each step of the MQT Performance Pathway and the fundamental training principles and activities.


Module 3 - Strength and Power Development                                                

Describe the benefits of strength and power training.

Understanding how to apply the correct training modality, the correct volume and intensity and correct timing of each intervention.

Describe the five cornerstones of physical preparation.

Describe the six macro and six micro training variables that can be manipulated to enhance strength and power.

Describe the six sub-categories of strength and the programme design cornerstones of each sub-category.            

Develop effective strength and power training programmes to improve functional performance in various activities including; athletic performance, general health, rehabilitation and reconditioning.

                                   

Module 4 - Recovery and Regeneration Part 2

Understand the fatigue continuum.

Describe the difference between functional overreaching, non functional overreaching and overtraining syndrome.

Describe what fatigue is and the different forms of fatigue that your client may experience.

Describe a range of recovery and regeneration interventions.

Understand the difference between prophylactic and therapeutic recovery and regeneration strategies.

Discuss the evolution of the recovery pyramid and understand the framework of the recovery pyramid.                  

How to use the recovery pyramid to select the most appropriate recovery and regeneration intervention for your client.

How to use the recovery matrix to match types of fatigue with appropriate recovery and regeneration interventions.              

Critically evaluate and question the appropriate application of recovery and regeneration interventions.

Plan and programme recovery and regeneration interventions with both short and long term adaptations in mind.


Module 5 - Injury Reduction and Reconditioning

Describe and understand the importance of the injury reduction matrix.

Describe the key aspects of injury management.

Develop the ability to establish the nature of an injury using the injury classification system.

Describe the three phases of injury healing.

Describe the stages of injury management.

Describe the joint by joint approach.

Understand the key components of an injury rehabilitation and reconditioning programme.

Develop the ability to effectively produce comprehensive training programmes that take into account the injury history of the client.

Nick Grantham

Nick Grantham

Nick Grantham’s first job was as head of sport science for British Gymnastics at Lilleshall Sports Injury and Human Performance Centre, the first private, non-university-based provider of sport science support for teams and athletes. An accredited Sport Scientist with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, Nick then gained the National Strength and Conditioning Association certification and became one of the first people in the UK to hold both qualifications.

In 2001 Nick moved from gymnastics to England Netball, to work in one of the first full-time strength and conditioning roles in high-performance UK sport. Two years later, he became one of the first strength and conditioning coaches to work for the English Institute of Sport, leading its West Midlands team across three sites. Travelling extensively in support of teams at major championships and on international tours, Nick has gained unrivalled access to leading high-performance facilities around the world, including: New Zealand Rugby, England Rugby, Wales Rugby, Manchester City, the US Olympic Training Centre and even the Birmingham Royal Ballet and Cirque du Soleil.

Leaving the English Institute of Sport in 2007, Nick established himself as an independent Performance Enhancement Specialist working with the Chinese National Football team, the RFU, Great Britain’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, Championship and English Premiership football teams. Globally, Nick has worked with athletes who have competed at four Olympics and is a Performance Consultant for Nike.

A sought-after expert on strength and conditioning, Nick Grantham has featured in leading publications such as: Mens Health, Mens Fitness. Nick is a published author and his latest book, "The Strength and Conditioning Bible: How to Train Like an Athlete" introduces the reader to performance based conditioning.
